Overview
Here, Unsicker-Durham talks about racism and discrimination. Following the Black Lives Matter movement, and reading about prison populations filled disproportionately with people of color, had deepened her understanding of systemic racism. In 2014 a state legislator crafted a bill that would have made it illegal to wear a hoodie in a public place. Later that same year, a local fraternity made the news with a viral video: a busload of white boys chanting a little ditty about membership and the N-word. Elizabeth Ellsworth illustrates the need \"for understanding how social and cultural difference is socially constructed and linked to power\". Racism is a constant that must be unlearned, but it is not the only social construction to be examined.
