After adoption of decisions regarding this threat within the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), including the land-breaking Decision VI/23 on Guiding Principles for tin- prevention, introelucfion and mitigation of impacts of alien species thai threaten ecosystems, habitats or species, environmental authorities throughout the world have begun vigorous work in adopting measures to control the introduction and spread of alien species, and to develop research and monitoring programs to follow the effects of these species on biological diversity.
