Overview
La bella mostra \"Masaccio e le origini del Rinascimento,\"curata da Luciano Bellosi a San Giovanni Valdarno, dal 20 settembre al 21 dicembre 2002, si apriva con i due \"Crocifissi\" lignei di Donatello e Brunelleschi. La figura del Cristo donatelliano è più tormentata, con il corpo improntato a un naturalismo più epidermico che strutturale. La testa dolente è bellissima. Nel lungo perizoma a pieghe falcate che scende sulle ginocchia mostra ricordi ghibertiani. In molti elementi si ha ricerca di espressività e di sentimento. La critica più recente tende ad anticipare la sua datazione a metà del primo decennio del Quattrocento, quando Donatello aveva circa 20 anni e collaborava con Ghiberti nelle prime fasi di lavorazione della Porta Nord del Battistero, fra il 1404 e il 1408. Forse il Cristo si può collocare fra il 1406 e il 1408 circa.
