Overview
The Public Health Agency of Canada has published several updates to the SARS-CoV-2 Biosafety Advisory since its first publication on January 27, 2020.4 The importance of the advisory is underscored by the following statement: \"Laboratories receiving specimens from patients under investigation for COVID-19 must be aware that improper handling of these specimens poses a risk of exposure, which could seriously impact the health of personnel and the community, as well as the animal population.\" Rapid point-of-care testing is being performed in some jurisdictions where regulatory approval has been granted.7 This opens the window to non-traditional testing outside of the lab and brings with it the potential for breaches in good laboratory practice and higher risk.
