Overview
Los numerosos trabajos escritos en torno al tema del apoyo social indican el gran interés que ha generado este concepto. Sus efectos sobre la salud son bien conocidos, aunque se continúan investigando los mecanismos por los cuales disponer de alguien que te escuche, te acompañe y te valore incide en la sensación de bienestar de una persona. El objetivo de este estudio es examinar la estructura y funcionalidad de las redes de apoyo social de una población especialmente vulnerable: los adolescentes acogidos en residencias de protección. Para ello se describe el papel desempeñado por las personas que componen su red social como fuentes de apoyo emocional, instrumental y afectividad. Los resultados son contrastados con los hallados en una amplia muestra de adolescentes de la población general, ajenos al Sistema de Protección. There are many researches on the theme of social support, what reveals the large interest around this concept. Its effects on health are well known, although specific mechanisms relating social support and health are still being investigated. The aim of this study is analysing structure (size and composition) and three functional dimensions (confidence, instrumental help and affection) of adolescent’s social support networks in residential child care. The kind of social support provided by different people of their networks (father, mother, brothers, care workers, friends, etc.) is analysed by means of a social support questionnaire. The same questionnaire was applied in a large sample of adolescents from general population, who do not have any relation with Child Welfare services, in order to compare results between both groups.
