New-fallen leaves were His weeds of autumn. How could my rake and walk-behind, Hand-push mower Keep up with his Industrial-scale sacrament? I lift my head, look toward him, And offer sincere apology In behalf of my trees, My leaves, and my neglect. [...]if only I could find a machine That could chew, pulverize, And spit out tiny leaf fragments, So that my pestilent leaves would fly Everywhere and nowhere, Become property of the wind, Gently settle on lawns, And nourish the soil As flakes of nearly invisible dust.
