Partially due to the rapid increase of nonfiction courses in creative writing programs, and partially due to the increasing variety of publications and visual media that blend public and personal history together with imaginative narrative, more and more critical and theoretical attention, often with a strongly aesthetic or narratological emphasis, is being devoted to autofiction, biofiction, historical fiction, biopics, and graphic novels and memoirs.
