Overview
The human condition is the main source of motivation in my art. Humans believe they are at the top of the hierarchical ecological system, and are trained to behave in specific ways to fit into \"mainstream\" society. What many do not realize, or like to acknowledge, is that humans are animals, with animal instincts. We eat, excrete, procreate, protect ourselves, and attack others. My interest in these parallels leads me to depict creatures that are part human, part animal. These hybrids are combinations of real animals and people that exist in the world. The project Hairy Tales presents my own version of society via satirical, metaphorical, large-scale, interactive pop-up prints. I am influenced by both Eastern and Western cultures and philosophies, from Korean cultural artifacts such as Minhwa and Jiokdo, to Jean Baudrillard\"s critical writing, On Seduction , and the paintings of fifteenth century artists Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel.
