Overview
Robert Edmund Jones, a pillar of stage design, once wrote a comment about design that summarizes my design drive upon entering graduate school, “Realism is something we practice when we aren't feeling very well. When we don't feel up to the extra effort”. In an effort to break the traditional mold many American scenic designers fall into, myself included, I choose to learn and grow from a European designer and Professor, Nic Ularu. His European based teaching principles of scenography have taught me to explore every option available and ignore initial instinct to create symmetry and structure. Through exploration, analysis, and visual arts my ability to become a influential scenographer will be forever strengthened.
