Overview
The allegations are quite serious. What has come to hand today: the ABC understands that there was a meeting of senior operational police, possibly last year, possibly early this year, who met to talk about the investigation into Mrs [Kamitsis]' case. And at that meeting, it's said that the commissioner at the time, Mr [John McRoberts], advocated for civil rather than criminal charges to be laid against the travel agent. He also apparently quashed a search warrant that was to be executed against her. Another piece of information that's come to hand today is that text messages were discovered on Mrs Kamitsis' phone, her mobile phone, when she was arrested in November last year. And there are text messages on her phone, apparently, to and from Mr McRoberts over quite a period of time, which seems to confirm that there was an ongoing personal relationship. [Kate Wilde]: The fallout at this stage is that the Police Association is saying that it's quite a blow to the morale of the police force. It presents quite a challenge to the NT Police Force to sort of continue with their work without clear leadership and they have called on the NT Government to be swift in reappointing, in appointing a new commissioner and appointing a deputy commissioner.
