EXCERPT OF [George Pell] SPEECH: The small but growing conversion of native Westerners within Western societies to Islam carries the suggestion that Islam may provide in the 21st century, the attraction that communism provided in the 20th, both for those that are alienated and embittered on the one hand and for those who seek order or justice on the other. [Keysar Trad]: It's totally unfair to compare the interests of Islam with the interest in communism in the last century, because communism is a godless system, a system that in fact persecutes faith. [Toni Hassan]: Is there some currency to Cardinal Pell's comments that there's an appeal in Islam, a similar appeal that existed for many who were drawn to communism?
