Modern myth In his article \"Trump, Netanyahu, and King Midas\" (April 21, 2025), while giving excellent analyses of ancient myths and criticizing current rulers, Mordechai Beck expresses full acceptance of a modern myth - that the rebirth of Israel in the Jews' ancestral homeland resulted in the Palestinians' losing their patrimony. [...]many of the people who today call themselves \"Palestinians\" descend from families that entered Palestine (located in the southern Syria region of the Ottoman Empire) only after Zionist activity had raised the area's living standards. Hamas blames an Israeli blockade but doesn't explain how it was able to spend $1,000,000,000 building an extensive network of terror tunnels, embedded so deeply amid the populace that any Israeli response to Hamas's attacks is sure to kill some civilians, despite Israel's exemplary efforts to minimize collateral damage.
