\"The mixed asphalt and existing asphalt are fused together to avoid seams,\" he said. \"In the typical asphalt repair, you have a seam, which allows for moisture infiltration over time, which degrades the patch and it will cause the patch to fail. Therefore, you have a pothole within six to nine months after repair. We consider our repair to be a permanent repair.\" \"We heard about them through another city,\" said Bassam Alzammar, Redlands' water superintendent. \"I've never seen anything like it before. This was the first time we've ever done anything like that here and I figured we'd try it and see what it's like and if it saves money. So far, it looks good. It's holding up. But it's only a month old so really time will tell if it actually holds up longer than the conventional way of doing things.\" \"Asphalt repair and pothole restoration is a huge market,\" he said. \"My passion is business, the challenge of developing business opportunities in the service sector I know, which is commercial and building services that this is a part of.\"
