Overview
After 30 years of living inWest Virginia, I packed up and moved away, for work. In the past six years, Ive lived in Connecticut, New York City, and Los Angeles where I currently live. When I moved, I knew Id miss West Virginia culture. I wouldnt find moonshine or cornbread in uber hip Brooklyn. Or a rack of antlers hanging in a Hollywood bar. I wouldnt find L.A. hipsters wearing Carhartt shirts, blaze orange, or camo hats. No, those are things you only find in places like West Virginia. Right? Wrong. Hillbilly Chic is one of the hottest trends around. Some of the hippest bars in Brooklyn play country music and have antlers on the wall. These bars are inhabited by hipsters that look like theyre ready for hunting season. And what are they drinking? Moonshine! And its made in Brooklyn of all places! Its great thatWest Virginia cities have martini bars and ethnic food. But no ones going to travel to West Virginia to have a Manhattan or eat sushi. Theyre going to come toWest Virginia to get an experience that they cant get anywhere else.
