Cass] wrote. \"I was riding for the Anchor P that winter,\" he continued, \"and Sam Howe was my foreman. I opened up five water holes every morning in the river and then would ride up and bring in the cattle nearest the freshly opened hole from the homestead country. \"Sam Howe had had his own hard day. He had brought his cook over to help him and then had become separated looking for strays. They had planned to meet at my home around four. On Sam's way down he met his cook leaning over the horn of his saddle unconscious. Sam had to take him to my house and carry him in to get warm.
