\"There is definitely a strong desire to curb excessive executive pay, which is such an emotive issue given the remarkable sums of money involved,\" said Luke Hildyard, policy lead for stewardship and corporate governance at the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association, whose members hold around Pounds 900 billion in assets. Investor advisory groups such as ShareSoc have also been vocal. Roger Lawson, deputy chairman of ShareSoc, said: \"This is outrageous. I cannot see why we have to pay CEOs such enormous sums, especially when underlying financials have not been particularly good.\" Daniel Summerfield, co-head of responsible investment at USS, the second largest pension scheme in the UK, added: \"Every time pay awards are voted down, the boards of UK plc should recognise the strong signal being sent to them and respond appropriately.\"
