Overview
Mary Howitt was born in 1799 to a strict Staffordshire Quaker family. In 1861, she married William Howitt, also a writer. Even though she had 12 children, she became an author, editor and translator of more than 100 works. She also introduced the tales of Hans Christian Andersen to England.
