Overview
[Bill Flookes] said the petition, with Shrake named as respondent, will cite the Contraverted Elections section of the Election Act. Flookes said he has sufficient evidence for a case and hopes a court battle will put the public spotlight on existing election procedures in a way not possible through a quiet government investigation. Even before the polls closed Monday, allegations started circulating about Shrake's efforts to get out the vote in his constituency. Opponents have charged that the Shrake campaign bused Chinese senior citizens to a polling station and issued facsimile ballots with an X by his name and Flookes' name misspelled. Flookes meanwhile, said the Fair Election Committee, chaired by Calgary writer Joanne Hendenstrom, will continue to monitor and compile allegations and rumors about the Shrake campaign.
