Staff at the MacKimmie Library are reporting thefts of rare books and missing pages of survey and western geological map plates from the 1890s over the past year. \"To take maps or a couple of plates or whatever is kind of strange. You're stealing the history that we all deserve to be able to access,\" said Calgary Police Service Staff Sgt. Luch Berti, who says police were notified of the ripped-out pages May 31. Cameron Treleaven, owner of Aquila Books, said the maps missing from the university's books from the late 1800s fall short of the black market's demands for centuries-old cartography.
