Overview
Robinson and [Alpana Singh] were wine lovers who sought jobs in the business and became accredited sommeliers (at New York's Windows and the World and Chicago's Everest, respectively) and eventually celebrity experts. [Natalie MacLean] was a former high-tech marketer who decided to turn her love of the grape into writing and a Web site. Instead, Robinson has rewritten the genre for the new millennium. It's reality-based on ratings from her Web site fans: The wines are familiar or can be found in supermarkets and mainstream wine lists (Each wine gets a \"Kitchen Survivor\" grade: fridge for whites and counter for reds). The lengthy appendix proposes wines for every personal and holiday occasion except a divorce party. Singh's happy pragmatism admits to differences of the sexes, and their wine preferences. On Mars, guys look for big reds and big numbers, wine gets overthought, and overwrought with performance anxiety. Venusians like pinot grigio and shiraz, and are swayed by stories about the winery and winemakers.
