Overview
WORCESTER - Binge drinking declined 7 percent from 1993 to 1997 at WPI, one of only nine colleges to show a decrease in a Harvard School of Public Health alcohol survey of 116 colleges. The sharpest decline in binge drinking - 19 percent - came among the college's male students, while more women reported both drinking and binge drinking. Nationally, binge drinking continued at about the same rate over the five years, according to Henry Wechsler, director of the Harvard study. Complete results of the national survey are not yet available.
