Overview
You open the gate in the high chain-link fence and walk in. Before you can even close the gate you are mobbed by dogs - dogs jockeying for position to lick your hands and be patted, dogs putting their feet up to beg for more, dogs wagging their tails, dogs barking at you, dogs everywhere - big dogs, little dogs, old dogs, puppies, shy dogs, friendly dogs. Dozens, no, over 100 dogs. A sharp-nosed mutt named Lisa wants you to let her in where the cats are. There are dogs under the trees, dogs sprawled on the porch, dogs following you wherever you go, dogs running around, dogs napping on blankets, more dogs than you can remember or comprehend. Where did they all come from? What are they doing here? You bend over to pat the cats twining around your legs, and a cushy yellow cat steps onto your back and settles there, purring. You look up, and a tortoiseshell named Ashley rubs her head against yours. While you dislodge the visitor on your back, a sleek charcoal cat begs at tention with a husky voice - part Siamese. A shy longhair named Kelly gazes at you with owlish green-gold eyes. Lady like Arcadia, white with black patches, lifts a velvet paw as if waving. A blue-and-cream calico, Princess, meows to be patted from atop a wire cage.
