Overview
`...I kept on being refused. Nobody wanted to accommodate these handicapped people.' - Rabbi Morris J. Block. What was most disturbing, Block said, was that one man who objected was, like himself, a Jew. He had also found equally troubling the previous summer his synagogue's refusal to hold a bar mitzvah for a young boy who was brain-injured and wore a leg brace. The synagogue's excuse was that it had no accommodations for handicapped children, Block said. Last year, the Dinkins administration recognized Block's contribution when Bay 44th Street was renamed Rabbi Morris J. Block Street.
