Overview
Sean P. Dolan is the perfect spokesman for Bishop William Murphy [\"Church's good deeds ignored,\" Letters, June 21]. When the bishop's actions are just plain wrongheaded because the bishop decides to change programs without regard to those connected with his targeted programs, Dolan makes it appear that the bishop is reasonable and fair. Orwell's doublespeak has become Dolan's churchspeak. As an active Catholic in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, I've come to believe that Bishop Murphy does not accept criticism very well. If he did, he would not have banned Voice of the Faithful, but would have met with its members and taught them what he believes to be the error of their ways. The diocese is in a very sad state. Orthodoxy is king today to the detriment of thinking Catholics who believe the church is big enough to handle nondogmatic views other than the bishop's. While I wish for healing, I wish more for a bishop who is less autocratic and more in tune with all his flock. Amnesty International has declared June Torture Awareness Month. When are Muslims all over the world going to condemn our soldiers' being tortured? We have the president of the United States publicly denouncing torture on many occasions. And now we have the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq bragging about purposeful, bloody torture and murder. I don't hear enough people protesting when hostages' heads are sawed off.
