Overview
[Janet Vaughan] will be remembered for her part in introducing into Britain the practice of storing blood for transfusion. The technique, which allowed stored blood to be used at the Front, had been developed in Spain during the Civil War by Dr Duran-Jordan. Janet Vaughan was deeply involved in providing medical help for the Spanish Republic. She was a member of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee, which sent doctors and nurses with ambulances and medical supplies to Spain, and she organised collections in support of the committee in Bloomsbury.
