Overview
The coated products group, which accounted for 27 percent of the firm's $608.4 million in sales last year, manufactures carbonless paper, packaging tapes and thermosensitive label papers that are sold to the automobile, homebuilding and applicance industries. This year these products will account for less than 25 percent of Nashua's sales, B. Thomas Rodgers, Nashua vice- president of finance, said yesterday in a telephone interview. Last year Nashua and Savin Corp., which marketed the Ricoh- built copiers domestically, ended their marketing relationship with Ricoh forcing both Savin and Nashua to manufacture their own photocopiers independently. Nashua launched the 2200 series and is marketing it along with the necessary toners, developers and selenium drums to its overseas markets. To offset poor sales in the coated papers group, the company is banking on increases in its photocopier business. This year it picked up Savin's copier supply business. So far Nashua has captured a reported l0 to 12 percent of Savin's supply business.
