Overview
Jordan was the hero Saturday night, when he hit a ninth-inning two-run homer and made a diving catch in the eighth in the Cardinals' 7-5 victory over the Padres in San Diego. The Cards' sweep in the first round of the 1996 playoffs puts them in the League Championship Series, which begins Wednesday in Atlanta against the Braves - last year's World Series winners. Sunday was a busy pro-sports day in St. Louis. The Blues played host to the Chicago Black Hawks Sunday night at Kiel Center. Earlier in the day, a Trans World Dome full of increasingly glum Rams fans watched the San Francisco 49ers throw over the hometown team 28-11. At Lambert, most of the Cardinals and their families walked down a staircase from their chartered jet to shuttle buses on the tarmac. Buck, Jordan and four other players walked through the terminal to speak briefly to the crowd, turning heads in ticket lines.
