Overview
While the incident did not occur while the tourist was engaged in an adventure tourism activity, there was a lesson in it for tour operators, said Dr [Tim Bentley], manager of the Centre for Occupational Human Factors and Ergonomics, based in Auckland and Rotorua. The rafting, jet boating, sea kayaking and all-terrain vehicle operators have finalised their own key components while off-road vehicle, eco-tourism and adventure cycling operators had drafted their components. Australian travel agent Carolyn Pike started warning clients about travelling on jetboats in New Zealand after she was injured in an accident. Ms Pike broke a leg bone when the jetboat in which she was a passenger hit a rock wall at speed in New Zealand's adventure tourism centre in Queenstown.
