Overview
As a documentary filmmaker and journalist who lived in Israel for 10 years, I still found it difficult to let my daughter come to Israel now. I reviewed the potential dangers with her and I told her that if at any time she wanted to come home, even in the middle of the program, she could. I also told her I felt proud that she was willing to go and to serve. It is abundantly clear that now, more than ever, Israel needs support from Jews around world. Whether we want to admit it or not, the fate of Israel affects all Jews. We are all bound to Israel's destiny as any one cell of the body is connected to the others. And so it is with us, with Am Yisrael, the people of Israel. So, when Israel is in trouble, every Jew is in jeopardy - even those who keep their Judaism on a back shelf or under wraps. Sir, - In his August 17 article \"Modifying whose behavior?\", reporter Larry Derfner curiously implies that the Israeli public is opposed to Israel's takeover of Orient House, calling this \"the consensus opinion beyond the boundaries of Israel's National Camp.\" Yet a survey in the same day's Ma'ariv revealed that twice as many Israelis favor the decision (58 percent) as oppose it (29%); supporters include 77% of right-wing voters and 71% of centrists.
