Overview
RECENT EVENTS indicate that the political leadership is out of step with the public. Today's public is aware of its diversity and realizes that in order to promote its needs, representation in the government is required. Israeli society today resists being bound by extended government controls. The demand now is for a government which will permit the expression of individual initiative in order to progress, and to accommodate Russian aliya which will contribute academic, scientific and technical skills. This will require liberalization so that Israelis can exercise their entrepreneurial muscles. This would result in employment for Israelis and olim and partnerships between them as well as the creation of the export market so necessary for Israeli products. A government responsive to its electorate would realize that today it is called upon to provide neither the fish nor the rod. A responsive government would jettison its outdated paternalism and open the economy to market forces.
