Overview
[Glorya Candelaria Pitts], who will be 69 in February and is in her 46th year of teaching, recently opened up her annual Democracy in Action class elections, inviting parents to listen to the political speeches of aspiring presidents, treasurers, secretaries and public relations directors. Pitts' hair, still thick, long and black, is only starting to be accented with silver streaks. The grandmother of three and greatgrandmother of one led the class in a fitted, pin-striped black pantsuit, with chains of pearls hanging from her ears and manicured hands. DEAN HANSON/JOURNAL Painted Sky elementary fifth-grade teacher Glorya Pitts, left, hands the microphone to presidential candidate Ashley Moseley before her speech during their Democracy in Action classroom elections Friday
