Overview
Devon F. Turner, the city's director of economic development, said four Lufthansa representatives met last week with [John O. Norquist], Mitchell International Airport Director C. Barry Bateman and Peter W. Beitzel, vice president for trade and transportation with the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce. Turner said two Lufthansa officials from West Germany and one each from Chicago and Milwaukee toured Milwaukee last Wednesday and Thursday. They met twice with Norquist, including once over lunch at Weissgerber's Third Street Pier, 1110 Old World 3rd St. While the city would encourage any foreign or domestic airline to establish direct flights between Milwaukee and Europe, Lufthansa's German ownership could give Milwaukee an edge over other cities courting the airline, she said.
