Na reunião de segunda-feira, ficou decidido que serão intensificadas as operações para impedir a infiltração de terroristas através da fronteira com o Egito. O atentado foi cometido por um terrorista da Jihad Islâmica, que entrou em Israel a partir do Sinai. Nessa terça-feira, aviões israelenses bombardearam um túnel perto da passagem de Karni, na Faixa de Gaza, que, segundo o governo israelense, seria usado para realizar ataques a seu território. A trégua põe fim a cinco dias de confrontos na Faixa de Gaza . Mais de 30 palestinos morreram em combates entre as facções desde quinta. Apesar da trégua, homens armados mataram, nessa terça-feira, um comandante do Hamas na Faixa de Gaza, e a organização islâmica responsabilizou um serviço de segurança ligado à Fatah pelo episódio. Foi o primeiro assassinato ocorrido no território desde que o cessar-fogo entre os dois grupos entrou em vigor, durante a noite. Autoridades de um hospital da cidade de Khan Younis disseram que Hussein Shabasi tinha levado um tiro na cabeça.
