Overview
He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church, Burrowsville. He served as the superintendent of Sunday school and co-chairman of the Deacon Board, member of the Brotherhood Club, chaplain of the Burrowsville Brandon Area Concerned Citizens Organization, president of the Missionary Circle, member of the NAACP, member of the Saint James Masonic Lodge No. 128 and was an active member of the Big Buck Hunt Club. He retired from Stone Container Corp. after 40 years of loyal service. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 47 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Mrs. Eva L. Byrd of Dendron and Mrs. Celestine Chambliss of petersburg; one son, Daniel W. Epps Jr. of Casper, Wyo.; one uncle and aunt, Russell and Mrs. Hazel Banks of Washington, D.C.; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Alice L. Epps of Casper, Wyo.; two sons-in- law, Thomas Byrd Sr. and Philip Chambliss; four sisters, Mrs. Theressa E. Cheeks of Prince George, Mrs. Olga E. Butler of Hopewell, Mrs. Vivian Jenkins of Petersburg and Mrs. Wanda Farr of Norfolk; one brother, Calvin Epps of Prince George; nine grandchildren, Thomasina, Thomesha, Tomecka, Tommara and Thomas Jr. Byrd, and Monee, Samara, Anthony and John Epps; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lillian Epps, Mrs. Juanitha W. Epps and Mrs. Florence Epps, all of Prince George; two brothers-in-law, Harvey Butler and Calvin Jenkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is survived by his ex-wife, Bobbie; longtime companion, Della Westbrooks; children, Cornelius, Stephen, Jonathan and Keren; brothers, Robert Gray, Harold Gray and Isaac Gray; sisters, Armaryllis Jackson, Doris Whitehead, Tecora Blackshere, Ruth Edwards, Edith Whitaker and Saundra Lewis; grandchildren, Tyrick, Terrell, Tiffany and Nakia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
