Overview
Improvisational guitar is a fairly new field of study, partially because the instrument was always considered lightweight in academic circles until the fairly recent re-evaluation of 20th century musical forms like jazz, pop and rock and roll. Among the papers being presented is Improvisation and the 19th Century Guitarist, which will discuss the techniques used by European practitioners of the day. Other papers deal with the Renaissance, [Jimi Hendrix], Montreal jazz icon Sonny Greenwich, Quebec legend [Felix Leclerc] and general reports on electric blues and the role of guitar in country music.
