Overview
Heather Lotherington says the skills needed to create and operate video games, websites, cellphones and other technology represent a new kind of literacy. And schools need to recognize and include this new literacy, says Lotherington, a professor of linguistics and education. Lotherington says many people think of \"literacy\" as being able to read and understand words on paper. Lotherington said she doesn't want to eliminate the great novels and plays from being studied in class as they always have. But it's time to get flexible, and include new ways to encourage critical thinking.
