Overview
\"Nice of him to tell me,\" says [Hall], 31, rolling her eyes good- naturedly. It was a good thing [Tim Curtis], 34, remembered. The producers from the show called while Curtis was away. The show in which the Curtis and Hall's home will be featured is called Code Green Canada. Spawned from a province-wide environmental home renovation show called Code Green BC, this six-part series is airing across Canada on CBC Television and on CBC Newsworld. Hall and Curtis's house is one of 12 chosen from more than 5,000 entries. More than 250 applicants came from Vancouver Island alone. Each of the contestants were given $15,000 and a little help from energy consultants to reduce their home's energy consumption. The home with the greatest reduction wins a 2006 Toyota Prius Hybrid car valued at $35,000. Code Green co-producer Daniel Leipnik says Curtis and Hall's house made it to the final round precisely because it failed to make the energy-efficiency grade. \"These houses were all chosen because they're energy pigs,\" says Leipnik. \"Their owners are pitchforking money down the drain to pay for utilities.\"
