Overview
Superintendent Charles Gale asked technology director Beth Frank to investigate phone-dialing systems after a 12-year-old Northside Elementary School student skipped school. Authorities say the girl took a flight to Mexico City with her 22-year-old cousin last month. Her parents didn't know she was missing until the end of the school day. The new program started last week. Frank said the district already has received positive responses from parents who have called the school after receiving the alerts about children missing class. Some bugs still need to be worked out, Frank said. It's important that the district have the correct home phone and alternative phone numbers for parents. She encouraged parents to contact the schools with that information, especially if they have yet to receive an automated call from the district.
