Overview
None of this was particularly new to me. I have a number of pre- adolescent/adolescent patients who have been branded ADHD/ADD/ODD, but what is hard to fathom is the speed at which this problem is growing in our society. Dr. Guinot, the speaker I was attending on the weekend, is a world-renown doctor from France who has dedicated his time to the study of the evolution of individualized medicine. In other words, he studies how disease processes start in us as human beings from the start when we are children. We have all read the studies that have revealed the massive exposure that kids get to garbage food via the media. They are over- whelmed with the stuff. Bright colorful breakfast cereal, just lovin it with McDonalds, cookies that dance. Couple that with intelligence sucking play station/gameboy/x-box options and it is no wonder that we have build a society of over-stimulated, hyped up kids with a strong sense of what they want.
