Overview
Last week, [Sherri Holt] had found a new landlord and a new apartment in Fort Walton Beach, but said she wouldn't have the required deposit and first month's rent by the eviction deadline. Unable to work because of her pregnancy, Holt feared she'd have to live in the woods until the money materialized. Holt applied for Okaloosa County Section 8 Housing's waiting list the day she moved, and said she arrived there early enough to be near the top of the list. She'll need the subsidy, since her rent has jumped from $225 to $430 per month. [Pastor Mike Stokes] said a deacon at a local church drove Marc Eveston, 22, Angela Eckerle, 20, and their three toddlers, who had moved to Deerland from Texas just over a month ago, to a trailer park near Navarre.
