Overview
With 9:20 remaining in the game, UA quarterback Jason Johnson was sacked by Fred Shavies and fumbled. WSU recovered on the UA 32 to preserve a 14-13 lead and capture the momentum. WSU scored in less than two minutes to take a 21-13 lead. Frustrated with poor depth on its kickoffs and punts, Arizona went to never-used JC transfer James Molina of Pueblo High School. His first kick went deep into WSU's end zone for a touchback. His first punt soared 52 yards, but Arizona got a first down when Molina was roughed after his punt. Later, his first official punt went an identical 52 yards. Moments before Arizona ran onto the field, key UA players Clarence Farmer, Michael Jolivette, Gainus Scott, Andre Torrey and Jarvie Worcester formed a huddle near the UA bench and chanted something inspiring. Unfortunately, none of the injured players were in uniform.
