Overview
Now that the Madison Muskies are no longer a link in the Oakland Athletics' minor league chain, [Tom Knickerbocker] -- a former Prairie du Chien athlete -- is content to stay out West. Knickerbocker, a 6-foot-4 left-hander, has generally made the best of it since graduating from Prairie du Chien in 1993. After two productive seasons at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Athletics selected him in the ninth round of last year's draft. Knickerbocker affirmed Oakland's faith in him with a strong season at Scottsdale. In seven starts and 10 appearances out of the bullpen, he went 4-3 with a 3.92 ERA and showcased a quality knockout punch by striking out 40 batters in 43 2/3 innings.
