Overview
[Rhonda K. Sutherland] was northbound through a construction zone about 10:30 a.m., [Bud Cooper] said, when her 1996 Ford Taurus hydroplaned and slid into the southbound lanes. Cooper said a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina driven by a 16-year-old Maryville girl slammed into the side of Sutherland's car. Unlike the occupants of the Lumina, Sutherland wasn't wearing a seat belt, Cooper said. However, he added it's doubtful that wearing a restraint would have saved her life. Slowing down, on the other hand, would have prevented the wreck altogether, he said.
