Overview
[Julie Hennessy], 25, calls Lewiston home and owns a degree in education from Minnesota. She won the Women's State Amateur in 1987 and won two college tournaments with the Gophers. Hennessy spent two years playing the mini-tour, including a year in Europe. She won two events during that time, but that success has not carried over to the LPGA Tour. Her best finish is a tie for 32nd, she has missed the 36-hole cut 17 times, and she is 145th on the money list with $6,338. But she is far from downbeat. [Peggy Kirsch], 32, a native of Duluth, is golf's answer to Will Rogers. She hasn't met anybody she doesn't like. After graduating from Alabama, Kirsch spent six long years playing in mini-tour events and the Futures Tour before getting through the LPGA qualifying school last October. Her rookie season has been a struggle; she has played in 22 events but has made only $5,704. Kirsch reached the semifinals of the U.S. Amateur in 1979 and won two college tournaments while at Alabama. But she has tasted little success on the LPGA Tour. Her best finish is a tie for 31st, and she has missed the 36-hole cut in 17 tournaments. Somehow, she remains as bubbly as ever.
