Overview
St. Benedict (28-2) playing in its first national final, had the Bears (31-0) on the ropes. After trailing 34-30 at halftime, the Blazers went on an 11-4 run to open the second half and grabbed a 41- 38 lead. Senior Robyn Ruschmeier scored five of her team-high 14 points during the span. The Sioux, ranked No. 1 all season, became only the second team to win three consecutive NCAA Division II women's titles. North Dakota State won four consecutive titles from 1993 to 1996. - Division II men: Kentucky Wesleyan won a record seventh NCAA championship, getting 22 points and 19 rebounds from Antonio Garcia in a 75-60 victory over Metropolitan State in Louisville, Ky. Garcia, the Division II Player of the Year and tournament MVP, made eight of 13 shots from the floor and had six assists for the top-ranked Panthers (35-2). Metro State finished 28-5. - Division III men: Colin Gassner hit a reverse layup with 19.8 seconds left in the second overtime, leading Wisconsin-Platteville to a 76-75 victory over Hampden-Sydney 76-75 in the championship game in Salem, Va. It was the first two-overtime game in the 25-year history of the Division III tournament.
