To the contrary, an agreement was reached wherein the Secretaries of Agriculture and Transportation will examine the cost efficiencies of consolidating Agriculture Department inspections under the F.A.A., without reducing aircraft, passenger or pilot safety standards or lowering preparedness, and the feasibility of applying this policy government-wide. That has always been the goal of my efforts, and I look forward to that report. Since 1992, before I knew of infractions by South Dakota operators, I sought to consolidate duplicative Federal inspections of air charter pilots and planes while keeping the stiff safety standards of each Federal agency.
