Overview
The New Zealand man attacked by a shark in the Galapagos Islands has discharged himself from hospital, angry at the care he received. Wellington man Sam Judd was surfing on outlying San Cristobal Island on Friday when a shark bit his thigh. Mr Judd managed to punch the shark away but was left bleeding and in shock. \"I knew I was bleeding and I thought `if that has another go, it's not going to be good, so I just want to get out',\" he said. He then clambered 400m along the rocks with bite marks on both thighs. His two mates got him to hospital, where a further surprise awaited; one had to run 2km to get money for medical supplies before they would start treating Mr Judd. \"They didn't have the supplies there in the hospital,\" he said. \"I said `I've got travel insurance, this is all going to be paid off, just pull the stuff out and stitch me up'.\" \"I was a little bit angry with that whole situation.\" Mr Judd was recovering at his rented cottage with his friends - and planned to stay on in the area.
