Overview
Naturally, the supporters of the will submitted for probate contended that it was \"signed and sealed\" completely voluntarily by the dearly departed testator. The main method of affixing a seal to back up a signature was with \"sealing wax.\" But it was also permissible to stick on a \"wafer\" - a circular do-hickey that looked like a seal, sort of. \"Now, sir, upon your solemn oath, you saw the testator sign this will - he signed it in his bed - at his request you signed it as a subscribing witness - you saw him seal it - it was with red wax he sealed it - a piece of wax about three inches long - he lit the wax with a piece of candle which you procured from a cupboard - you lit the candle with a match which you found on a mantel-shelf?
