Overview
When he became [Edward Heath]'s press secretary in 1970, he organised regular prime ministerial press conferences well before they became generally accepted. He developed good contacts with broadcasters, enabling the prime minister to appear regularly on current affairs programmes. He used these occasions for COI staff to record 90-second interviews with Heath for use on American, Canadian and Australian radio networks.
