Overview
\"I'm honored to serve and, I think, to serve a great cause like the city that you are born in, the city that really made you what you are,\" [Bobby Valentine] said. \"To be able to look back at the accomplishments of my life and know I've done well, and now the thought of trying to do good in a very public way, I think, is a very exciting challenge in my life.\" Valentine, a Stamford product who owns a popular downtown bar, Bobby Valentine's Sports Gallery Cafe, was appointed by [Michael Pavia] last year to oversee a Stamford task force charged with streamlining the city's fire service. Pavia said that Valentine, who led the Mets to the 2000 World Series, had handled the job well. \"When Mike said that he needed a little help at managing some of the services, managing some of the people, and he thought that my master's in the school of hard knocks or my Ph.D. in life might be able to facilitate the progress of our city, I said, 'Well, let's give it a try,' \" Valentine said. \"So, I'm honored.\"
